Healthy After-school Snacks with @Yonanas (Review & Giveaway)

We've been in school for a full two weeks and I'm glad to report that the two oldest kids are adjusting really well in their classes. I get to meet their teachers this week for Back to School Night and I'm excited because I've already talked with my son's teacher over the phone. She called to let me know how much she enjoys having my son in her class. Definitely made me one proud mama.

I've been on a roll with preparing the kids school lunches the night before, which definitely saves a lot of time when getting ready in the mornings. As far as after-school snacks goes, I usually have something for the kids on the table for when they get off the bus. Normally fruit cut up, veggies and dip or cheese and crackers.

Last week the kids were in for a treat. We were sent the Yonanas Banana Ice Cream Maker to try. Not only did they get a nice frozen treat, but they also got to help make it. They definitely enjoyed making their very own ice cream and I loved that it was made with all fresh fruit, no added sugars, so it was definitely a healthy, but delicious snack that I don't mind the kids having.

So basically how the Yonanas machine works is you need to have some frozen bananas. This is the base of your ice cream. You can then add any other frozen fruit your heart desires. We added strawberries and blueberries and made a mixed berry ice cream. It turned out delicious.

To make your ice cream you first need to peel, cut and freeze your fruit. Then once frozen you want it to thaw out a bit so that your ice cream is a good creamy texture. We let our fruit freeze overnight and had it thaw out for about 10-15 minutes before we used it. Once you're ready to make your treat you turn on your machine, insert your banana in the chute and then push it down with the plunger. You then can add in your other frozen fruit as well. Once you're done you then mix up both the banana and other fruit together to create your frozen treat. It's easy and simple to use and even the kids can help out with it. This is such a great after school snack and also a great dessert as well.

After you're done taking apart and cleaning the machine is just as simple as making your frozen treat. All you do is separate all the parts in the chute and wash them with warm soapy water. You can even add them in the dishwasher since they're dishwasher safe.

The best part about this machine is that there are a number of different recipes you can create using not only fruit, but also cookies and chocolate if you wanted to add in some sugar sweets. Your machine comes with a recipe book, but you can also follow Yonanas on Facebook and Twitter to find more recipes they've created.
Disclosure: All opinions are my own. I received a Yonanas machine at no cost for the purpose of this review. No other compensation was received.
