Green Dolphin: DeBug Review & Giveaway

So not only does Green Dolphin has Eco-Friendly cleaning products for you and your family, they also have DeBug! DeBug is an insect repellent that is 100% natural and safe and last up to 48 hours.

I had the opportunity to review a couple of DeBug patches and I was more than happy to do so since I'm prone to always getting bit in the Summer when the mosquitoes are out. I received a couple of packages and they come in either a two or four pack. I've used them twice, these last couple of weekends since we've been having family BBQ's, kids birthday parties and just hanging outside enjoying the weather, so I got these patches just in time.

I've used Off! before and although it works to where I can't feel when a mosquito bites me, I still get eaten alive, I'm talking over 20 bites and they itch like crazy the following day. So when we celebrated my son's fifth birthday party, a 40th surprise party and just a family BBQ these last couple of weekends using these patches worked a great deal.

I can honestly say that I was really impressed by these patches. All you do is apply the patch on your body and that's it. No sprays, lotions, etc. Nothing that makes you feel gross and sweaty and nothing to get in your mouth if you accidentally open it while spraying bug repellent on yourself (yes, this happened to me, lol). And I must say I noticed a huge difference! For someone who usually gets bit up like crazy by the end of the weekend I didn't even notice any bites. Maybe because I didn't have a ton of them like usual that would make me go crazy and itch all day long. I did find about three bites on my leg, but I'm not complaining, not at all. I'll take two to three bites over 20 any day, especially since this lasted throughout the weekend.

Now, I'm not saying that I will never use Off! again or another insect repellent, because I will. Most of them work great on my kids when they're outside in the evenings and they rarely get bit. But I will say that I will be using DeBug again for myself, especially when we go on our, "Back To School,"camping trip, these patches will be a hit with the family. I've already told my sister in law, Bobbi, who gets bit worse than me about DeBug and she already wants to try it.

Green Dolphin: Coffee & Espresso Cleaner and Eco Dishwasher Detergent Review & Giveaway

I love being a blogger. One of the main reasons is because you get to connect with companies with products that you absolutely love. Green Dolphin being one of those companies. Green Dolphin provides their customers with eco-friendly cleaning products for families.

Over the last couple of years I have been changing my ways, trying to make a difference to help our world by trying to good quality eco friendly and affordable products that I can use in my home around my family. So when I got this opportunity to review Green Dolphin's coffee/espresso cleaner and their dishwasher detergent, I was more then happy to.

Let me just say that when you find a product that works for you, you want to stick with it. I was so pleased with the outcome when using the Eco Auto Dishwasher Detergent. Not only was I pleased with the outcome of how my dishes came out, clean and shiny. I even put in a couple of non pre soaked plates and they came out looking spanking new, which made me happy. I was also pleased to find out that the detergent is also biodegradable and that there are no chlorine in the ingredients. Another plus is that a little less than ten bucks the detergent provides up to 50 loads, which is pretty awesome.

The next product I got to use was their Coffee and Espresso cleaner. Now usually to clean my coffee maker I use water and vinegar and I do it every other Sunday. This cleaner is also biodegradable and retails at a little less than eight bucks. I loved that there was a hint of coconut smell to this cleaner, which was better than the smell from when I normally use vinegar. It wasn't overpowering and it made the area where my coffee pot was smell great! I was please to see that not only did my coffee come out tasting refreshing, but that the coffee pot itself was clean. I usually have to wash the pot separately after I run it with vinegar and water, but not when using this coffee cleaner, which was a big plus in my book.

While I had a great experience with both products I absolutely loved the outcome of the Eco Auto Dishwasher Detergent better because when you don't have time to pre-soak you dishes and you can get straight to just putting the dish in your dishwasher, it saves a lot of time and being of mom of little ones around saving time is a plus in my book!

Thirsty Thursday: Appletini

This last weekend was pretty busy for us. We celebrated our son and niece's fifth birthday and a few hours after a great turnout for their party we had to hurry and get ready for a surprise 40th birthday bash. It was a success and the entire family had so much fun. I think I had too much fun, it took me a bit to recuperate, but I'm back to normal.

That being said, today's Thirsty Thursday is a drink I had last Friday after finishing up the last touches for the kids party that Saturday, an Appletini. This drink screams Sex and the City to me and so while I sipped on my appletini that's exactly what I watched, Sex and the City the movie. The first one. The kids were sleep and the hubby watched UFC in the family room. Me, I relaxed in the bed before I fell asleep with a good drink and an amazing movie. I can watch this movie and the complete television series, over and over again. So below is the ingredients to a perfect girly girls drink. I hope you enjoy!

Appletini

Ingredients
3oz. Vodka
3oz. Sour Apple Pucker
Maraschino Cherry

Directions:
Shake all ingredients together very well in a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour into a martini glass and garnish with a Maraschino Cherry!

240 Sweet ( @240sweet ) Review

240 Sweet was started up by Alexa Lemley and Samantha Aulick. These two lovely ladies started up this company that provides their costumers with homemade, hand-crafted local and all natural marshmallows. Each marshmallow has a different texture, density and aroma, which leaves their costumers with an unique and wonderful taste.

I love sweets. That's just my weakness. I've never been able to not take a bite of something that was so delicious. When I got the opportunity to try a few gourmet marshmallows from the ladies over at 240 Sweet I had to have them. I received three different kinds of marshmallows, their Sweet Beet Crunch, Tax Crunch and their Cara Cara with White Chocolate. All three were delicious, including the Sweet Beet Crunch, which I had doubts about at first, but strangely was delicious.

My all time favorite out of the three, the Tax Crunch. Yep, this peanut covered gourmet marshmallow was the one that screamed to me the most. I think because of the fluffiness, yet sweet (but no too sweet) marshmallow and the crunchiness of the peanuts. It was too bad that their only came three in a pack. I ate those up within the night I received them. All three flavors that I had the pleasure of tasting were all the Marshmallow of the month for the month of April 2012.

One great thing about these marshmallows is that you can not only get these if you're in their area, but you can also order these delicious treats online and have them delivered straight to your door step, even for us over here in Canada too!

Disclosure: All opinions are my own. I received samples of the above mentioned marshmallows at no cost for the purpose of this review. No other compensation was received.

Thin Ice DVD Review

Mickey Prohaska (Kinnear) is a small-time insurance agent looking for a way to jump-start his business, reunite with his estranged wife (Thompson) and escape the frigid Wisconsin weather. This self-proclaimed master of spin believes that salesmanship is about selling a story — all he needs is a sucker willing to buy it. He hits pay dirt with a lonely retired farmer (Arkin) who is sitting on something much bigger than an insurance commission. But Mickey’s attempt to con the old man spins out of control when a nosy, unstable locksmith (Crudup) with a volatile temper dramatically ups the stakes, trapping him in a spiral of danger, deceit and double-crossing.

The Thin Ice Blu-ray and DVD offers three bonus features including a behind-the-scenes featurettes, deleted scenes and a look at the Sundance premiere. The Blu-ray will feature both the theatrical and Director’s cuts of the film.

MY REVIEW

We had the opportunity to watch Thin Ice. I wanted to watch it because I`m a fan of Greg Kinnear and Alan Arkin. This film was what I expected, there were some dry humor going on along with a great storyline, both Kinnear and Arkin work pretty well together and this isn`t the first film they`ve been in together, remember Little Miss Sunshine? If you do then you'll love Thin Ice just as much as you did that film. This is probably not a film for everyone. Depending on how familiar you are with both the actors and what roles they take on, not to mention the sense of humor in this film, you have to have a certain personality for this movie. Well written, this film is going on my shelf as a must see!

Playtex Twist 'n Click Snacker and Bowl Review

The new Playtex Twist ’n Click Snacker and Bowl are designed for toddlers and parents on the go as an easy way to give kids that extra fuel to keep them active throughout the day. Using the unique twist and click technology that makes the product 100% leak-proof, the Snacker and Bowl is an easy solution for transporting healthy snacks such as fruit, cheeses, or dry cereals and is ideal to toss in a diaper bag.

My two year old toddler loves to have snacks and with the new snacker and bowl from Playtex I can let her do just that while we're at home or on the go. Such a great idea from Playtex. These containers lock which is great for less mess and the snacker is spill proof and has an easy lip that flips over for when she is done, which is awesome. These bad boys also are dishwasher safe, which is something you need when you're a busy mom.

The best part about these Twist 'n Click is that they are perfect for long car rides and trips. My parents live about a half an hour away, so we're always in the car making trips to visit them during the week and with the snacker and bowl, it's been a lot easier to go and drive while my little one can snack on the way there. I've tried other containers and with them the snacks always ends up all over my van which just causes for more clean up time for mommy and doesn't make me happy. With these the hole is small enough to fit her little hand in, but it does not dump out if it's turned over, which is perfect.

The snacker is retailed at $5.49 and the bowl is retailed for $7.99, but comes in a two pack. And the best of all is that if you're not satisfied with the Playtex Twist 'n Click you can return it for its full value or for replacement, but from my experience I don't think that will be needed!

Disclosure: All opinions are my own. I received both the Playtex Twist 'n Click bowl and snacker at no cost for the purpose of this review. No other compensation was received

Certain Dri (Solid) Anti-Perspirant Review & Giveaway

Certain Dri gives you 72 hours of sweat protection with both their roll on and solid Anti-perspirant. It's the strongest available formula without a prescription and is the #1 over-the-counter antiperspirant recommended by doctors for controlling excessive underarm perspiration.

I’m thankful that my girls here at Just Us Girls offered me the chance to review Certain Dri (Solid) Anti-perspirant, because excessive armpit perspiration is something I’ve struggled with for as long as I can remember (inherited as an unfortunate family trait).

I have literally had to stuff paper towels under my armpits at work and school to try to absorb the humiliation and control the enormous sweat pools beneath my arms. I was always quick to try every new antiperspirant available at the local grocery stores, so truthfully this is not my first time trying Certain Dri. It does definitely work…BUT the trick is you have to follow the instructions and apply the product at night just before falling asleep – not after your morning shower just before you rush out the door and off to your busy day.

I noticed a huge difference after using it for three nights in a row; on the fourth day, I had confidence enough to wear a tight-fitting T-shirt and was delighted to find no “pit stains”!

Certain Dri is available in mass market retail, supermarkets and drug stores nationwide, as well as online retailers and at www.certaindri.com. Suggested retail price for Certain Dri Anti-Perspirant Roll-On, Solid and A.M. Underarm Refresher (solid or roll-on) is $5.50 - $5.99 (typically 40% less than “clinical strength” antiperspirants).

Disclosure: All opinions are my own. I received the Certain Dri Solid Bar at no cost for the purpose of this review. No other compensation was received

Schick Quattro for Women TrimStyle Review

Schick Quattro for Women TrimStyle is the only razor and adjustable 4-length waterproof bikini trimmer in one. It also allows you to get as neat as you like it or as bare as you dare so you feel confident in everything you wear. And with its new pink handle, the TrimStyle razor is the stylish, must-have accessory to get your readers beach-ready.

The TrimStyle has everything you need to get ready for the season, including 4 ultra-thin blades surrounded by an acai and jojoba complex for long-lasting smoothness and an adjustable trimmer that allows you to get the desired look for your bikini area. And it's easy to use- the adjustable trimmer has four length options that let you easily personalize your style.

Absolutely superb product! Talk about a girly gadget! I’ve always loved Schick razors – but this one tops my list because on top of it having a four-blade razor for legs and underarms that gives a super smooth shave, the tail end has an attached water-proof battery-powered (awesome) razor to trim up bikini lines!

Everything you need in one nifty little gadget. It uses one AAA battery (and an Energizer battery is included in the package). It also comes with a detachable comb to accommodate longer trim styles, or remove the comb and “dare to be bare” as their advertisements state :)

I am sincerely impressed with this product…throw this in your overnight bag and you’ll never have to worry about bulking up on trimming products again. You know how every once in a while, a product comes along and you think “why the heck didn’t they think of this sooner?!" Well, THIS is one of those times! Bravo, Schick ;)

Schick Quattro for Women TrimStyle is available at major retail locations across Canada for approximately $11.99. Learn more at schick.ca.

Banana Boat Sunscreen Review

I have three children who all have extremely sensitive skin (much like they’re mother). Over the years I have tried many different brands ranging in price from extremely expensive to very cheap but rarely have I been able to find a sunscreen that can both protect my children’s delicate skin and not cause any adverse reactions.

Banana Boat sent me two different types of Sunscreen in both Cream and Spray to try.  I had zero skin reactions in my children to both types of sunscreen in both forms.  The Lotion in their regular 60 SPF worked just fine but due to my children’s activity levels I did have to reapply after a few hours.

The Sport sunscreen in their lotion form was my absolute favorite.  Banana Boat Sport lotion provided all day protection.  During water sports or sweating the Sport sunscreen never rubbed off of their skin into their eyes.

The spray types of both sunscreens worked but there was too much human error.  It’s hard to see when you miss spots and it’s ironically harder to get my children to stand still for the spray than the lotion. I found the scent was pleasant but the kids didn’t like it.  The sprays are a great deal faster to apply so if you are applying to an adult or kids on the run or even if they’re not getting a great deal of sun exposure, so accuracy isn’t an issue, the sprays are a big plus.

In the future Banana Boat Sport lotion will be my choice.  I felt it was hands down the best sunscreen I’ve ever used.

BRITISH COLUMBIA:
Title: Fabulous Springtime!
Photographer: Mike from Saanichton, BC
Photo Taken: Along a rural road in Victoria
To Mike, spring is a time of optimism and beauty as the scents are clean, the air is fresh and the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. Interested in “organic” photos, Mike found these tree branches to be the perfect subject.
Tip: To stand out from the crowd you have to be very good or different. To be different, take your camera off the auto setting or try photographing
from a different perspective.

Title: Perfection in Simplicity
Photographer: Caroline from Surrey, BC
Photo Taken: In her sister’s garden in Surrey
Caroline loves walking through gardens and parks, taking candid photos of the different flowers, trees, animals, birds and other creatures. She took this photo as she felt the flower was perfect, simple and a miracle.
Tip: Find the fascination and appreciation in the simple things that tend not to get noticed and photograph them.

SASKATCHEWAN:
Title: Modern Flower
Photographer: Julia from Saskatoon, SK
Photo Taken: At her apartment in Saskatoon
This photo is a modern twist on the flower ‐ elegant, simple, able to fit in perfectly with today's understated, neutral‐toned decorating trends. Julia enjoyed the challenge of taking a photo of a flower, and seeing it in a different way and from a different angle.
Tip: Open your eyes and see what's around you; see all the details, see everything. It's seeing and revealing what you see to others through your photos that makes you a photographer.

ONTARIO:
Title: End to a Perfect Day
Photographer: Janice from Toronto, ON
Photo Taken: At a cottage near Buckhorn, ON
Janice took this photo to reflect the end of a perfect day and the anticipation of tomorrow. Her photo captures a relaxing day at the cottage, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, with quiet loons calling.
Tip: Take photos that speak to you in some way. Take lots of photos and edit.

QUEBEC:
Title: Sunflowers
Photographer: Lise from Notre‐Dame‐de‐Pontmain , QC
Photo Taken: At her parent's home
This photo was captured on a beautiful day with the sun shining bright. The sunflowers were young and imperfect and the way the light brought out the yellow seemed too lovely for Lise to pass up.
Tip: Never think you have “the” perfect photo. Keep looking for it and keep having fun.

Title: Sun & Summer
Photographer: Karine from Laval, QC
Photo Taken: At her home in Laval
Many flowers that bloom in summer have vibrant colours that can really take your breath away. With its powerful red colour, Karine thought this flower would be interesting to photograph, especially in the sunlight.
Tip: Practice and originality is a must for capturing the perfect photograph.

Title: Dollars de Sable
Photographer: Jacqueline from Matane, QC
Photo Taken: At Matane Gaspésie
Sand dollars are a good luck charm. Jacqueline describes them as sweet and delicate gems from the sea and loves to take photos of them. Legend has it that if you break the center and make a wish, you will release doves.
Tip: Look with the eyes of your heart and be patient.

AT LANTIC CANADA:
Title: Crepuscular Rays
Photographer: Margaret from Six Roads, NB
Photo Taken: At a local beach in Four Roads
Although it was the church in the background that first drew Margaret to take this photo, she found that the determination of the sun to overpower the clouds was rather magical and worth preserving.
Tip: Look beyond what you see at first sight and take pictures from many different angles until you get “The One” that stands out.

Which is your favorite?

Thirsty Thursday: Canadian Club Mixed & Ready Plus Cover Challenge #MixedandReady

Today for our Thirsty Thursday segment, I'm going to be sharing with you my thoughts on the Canadian Club Mixed & Ready Drinks and also be sharing with you a challenge they have going on, but first, the drinks.

I first saw these premixed drinks when my husband came home from the LCBO one day. He bought the premixed Ginger Ale drink. I had a sip and loved it. Not only was this drink delicious, but it had the perfect amount of both whiskey and ginger ale in it. This not only saved us time from making the drinks ourselves, but these are so much more convenient to bring with you when you're going to a BBQ, party, etc. What I didn't know was they had not only the Ginger ale premixed drinks, but also cola. I had a chance to try these yesterday when I was sent four premixed drinks to try, two ginger ale, two cola. Both were delicious, the cola a bit more sweet than the ginger ale, but both very tasty. I'll definitely be trying the cola again sometime this Summer and I know for sure my husband will be having their Mixed and Ready Ginger Ale, it's been his go to drink for the last couple of months.

MY REVIEW
My kids absolutely love the Kratt Brothers and for the last couple of months have been watching them on the show Zoboomafoo, a show that teaches kids about different animals, via Netflix.

When I saw the opportunity to watch another series involving the Kratt brother's I was super excited because of how big a fan both my kids already are of them. The show, Wild Kratts, was awesome. This show not only keeps children attention, but it also teaches them so many different lessons involving the Earth and the world we live in, all while making it fun. This is also a great babysitter if you have chores you want to do around the house, my kids never left the TV once I hit play on our DVD player, lol.

My daughter has been watching this show non stop and has also decided to join their website where she can play fun games and learn more by exploring the habitat and playing many different games. You can do all this free as it doesn't cost to be a member. You can now purchase Wild Kratts: Jungle Animals, now to bring home to your family. It was released yesterday, July 10th!

Wilfred Season One DVD Review

You'll sit up and beg for more of Wilfred, the most hilarious and daringly original new comedy on TV. Elijah Wood stars as Ryan, a down-on-his-luck lawyer who forms a unique friendship with his sexy neighbor's pet pooch "Wilfred." Everyone else sees a dog, but Ryan sees a bong-ripping, beer-chugging, foul-mouthed Australian bloke in a furry suit (played by the outrageously funny Jason Gann.) By unleashing the surly, sweet and always adventurous Wilfred, Ryan may just learn to stand on his own hind legs and embrace the insanity of real life.

MY REVIEW
Honestly before I got the opportunity to review this I had seen a commercial for the show and wasn't thrilled about it. Then when I told my husband about the opportunity to review it he told me to get it because he heard that it was pretty good. I must say it is pretty funny. Elijah Woods plays Ryan and this awkward friendship that happens between him and Wilfred is just that, awkward. I think yet again, this is a show where you have to understand and get the humor of this show.

Definitely not a show for kiddos, but the hubby and I were able to watch this over the weekend and we couldn't stop laughing at some of the episodes. So we're now a fan of Wilfred. If you're a fan of Elijah Woods, give this show a shot and if you're already a fan of Wilfred, season one is now out to purchase! Check out the trailer below of an exclusive deleted scene from season one.

Bratz Neon Runway Dolls Review

Bratz Neon Runway dolls take the runway by storm with their neon trimmed fashions and adorable pets. These girls and their pups know how to strut their stuff! Each doll comes with her own pet dog and leash. Suggested retail price: $19.99.

My daughter absolutely loves dolls, especially Bratz. Over the last couple of years we have collected over a dozen of them. So when we got the opportunity to review a couple of the new, Brazy Neon Runway dolls, I was thrilled because I knew my daughter would be.

We were sent both Chloe and Jade. I must say the creators of Bratz always seem to amaze me with the new and creative ways they make their dolls and the looks they give them. They are always dressed to the nines with great fashion taste. This time was no different with the neon colors, they looked perfect and gorgeous.

Both girls loved the dolls and they loved how each doll came with their own unique dog, which is pretty cool. A dog that represents each girl. What I love about the dolls is how you're able to switch their shoes, I think that's so creative how you can mix and match with all the girl characters. I also love that the prices for all the dolls and accessories are affordable because every girl deserves a Bratz doll!

This book is perfect for any teen girl or young adult who are looking for new ideas to try out. Margaret DVD & Blu-ray Review

From Academy Award® nominated* writer/director Kenneth Lonergan (You Can Count On Me) comes a stirring drama Rolling Stone calls “a film of rare beauty and shocking gravity.” Anna Paquin, Matt Damon and Mark Ruffalo lead a celebrated cast in the story of a Manhattan teenager whose life is profoundly altered after witnessing a terrible accident. Experience an emotional teen’s extraordinary journey to set things right as her innocent ideals come crashing against the harsh realities of the adult world. It’s an “extraordinarily ambitious film,” raves Time Magazine. Will be released on Blu-ray combo pack July 10.

MY REVIEW

Kind thanks to Fox Entertainment for the opportunity to review the 2011 movie ‘Margaret’, a drama starring Anna Paquin and co-starring Matt Damon.  I’m always excited to get the chance to snuggle up with hubby and watch a movie and then chat it up after, but I find it a little bit tough to write a fair review when the movie isn’t the type we usually enjoy, and that’s what happened here with ‘Margaret’.  Truthfully, it took quite a bit of determination to make it all the way through the 150 minutes (two and a half hours) of slow-moving story line and awkward acting.  It felt a lot like a low-budget foreign film (though it’s based out of New York).

While there was kind of a plot that the movie tried to follow, (a young girl dealing with guilt over the lost life of a stranger in a pedestrian-versus-bus accident), it just felt like the scenes strayed constantly and the acting was oddly awkward.  There were a good amount of in-classroom debates, so that may intrigue a more controvertible personality than my own.

I can’t honestly say that I enjoyed this movie, but I would love to hear another opinion from our readers here, so please post if you get the chance to watch it.
