Easy After School Snacks w/ @SabraCanada (Review & Giveaway)

With three little ones, life is pretty busy around here. From the time I'm up with my two month old til the time all three are sleeping at night, it's non stop over here.

With the kids being back in school, not only am I trying to make a variety of lunches for them so they don't get bored with their food at school, but I'm also trying to make a variety of after school snacks for them that are not just delicious, but healthy as well.

A recent survey conducted by Nanos showed that 52% of respondents thought kids ate less healthy today than they did when they were young, and many still stress about school lunches. I know for me, thinking of many different snacks and lunches can some times get overwhelming, so I try and plan ahead of time what I'll be making the kids for lunch and after school snack at the beginning of the week, so I don't have to stress about it during the week.

The last couple of weeks I've been making snacks with delicious hummus from Sabra Canada. We've reviewed their hummus before and my thoughts on it hasn't changed. I love that it not only tastes delicious, but their hummus is made with ingredients that you can understand. Not only that, but their hummus is gluten free as well. I love that we can dip hummus with veggies, but we also love dipping pita bread with it as well.

My kids loved coming home after school to a platter of Cucumber Cups, a recipe I got from Sabra Canada. Not only are these cups delicious and healthy, but they are incredibly easy to make and something the kids can help you make as well.

Cucumber Cups
Ingredients:
1 container Sabra hummus
2 English cucumbers
1 tsp. paprika
1 bunch parsley, finely chopped

Directions:
Peel the cucumbers and slice length wise into 1¼ inch pieces.
Using a melon baller, carve out the seeds to create a vessel, making sure to leave the bottom intact.
Using a piping bag or a small spoon, fill each one with hummus (about 1 tsp. each).
Sprinkle with paprika and finely chopped parsley.

Be sure to check out Sabra Canada for some fun ideas to prepare tasty and fun lunches, as well as on-the-go and make-at-home snacks for your kids to enjoy this busy school year!

GIVEAWAY:
Share with us your favorite after-school snack to make and you could win a Sabra Canada $50 Prize Pack that includes two Sabra Canada lunch bags and 5 vouchers!

Enjoying Guacamole In The Fall! #Recipe

Fall is now here. I can't believe how fast the Summer came and gone. I loved all the barbecues and family get togethers we had and also all the yummy and delicious food that came with it. We seem to associate Summer with fresh fruit and veggies. I don't know about you, but I tend to buy more fresh fruit and veggies during the Summer more than I do any other time of the year.

When I think of Fall and Winter, my mind completely goes to baking and making stews, soups and casseroles. Even though I do purchase fresh veggies from my local grocery store to make these soups and casseroles, I forget that I can still enjoy fresh recipes like I do in the Summer, like, guacamole.

I love any and all Mexican food. It's mine and my husband's favorite type of food. So when I learned that Hellmann's had teamed up with celebrity Chef, Lynn Crawford, to create a couple different recipes using the popular mayo, guacamole being one of them, I knew I had to try it and share it with you all.

I've made guacamole lots of times, but have never thought to add mayo in it. It doesn't seem like it would be an ingredient to add, but let me just say, it was delicious. Not only was the guacamole a hit with my family, but it was rich and delicious and the mayo added a creaminess to the guacamole that, but didn't leave the guacamole mushy. The added fresh onions, cilantro, garlic and lime made worked so well with the mayo. My husband loved it so much, he wants me to start making this recipe for guacamole and suggested I make it this weekend when we have family and friends over and I think I will!

Below is the recipe thanks to Chef Lynn Crawford and for more information about this Hellmann's recipes and others, please visit www.hellmanns.ca

MY REVIEW
Postman Pat was a hit in my house. My son absolutely loved it. We had never seen any of the Postman Pat shows before, so I didn't know how my kids would take to the movie, but I have to say the kids enjoyed it. My daughter loved seeing the auditions in the talent show and she loved when it was Postman Pat's turn to sing. My son thought the Postman Pat robots were hilarious at when they were talking and how they delivered the mail to the residents in the town. It didn't turn out right, which is what my son thought was hilarious. It was great to see that even with fame, Postman Pat would still put his town first. This is a great adventure movie for the entire family to enjoy even without being familiar with the show.

Shopkins, The Perfect Collectibles For Girls! (Review)

When it comes to toys that are the new and latest trends, for young boys, it seems that The Trash Pack has been a huge hit. My nephew is crazy about them and has been collecting them for quite some time now. So when I first heard about Shopkins, mini collectibles that were geared to young girls, I immediately knew my daughter would love them. My nephew and her are five days apart and are very similar when it comes to toys that they like, especially toys that they can collect.

Shopkins are super cute, tiny, grocery-themed collectibles that are inspired by items from each aisle in the grocery store and come with adorable shopping bags and baskets. My daughter Joey loves Shopkins so much so she even watches reviews of the toys online so she was pretty happy when we received the entire set featured in the photos below to review ourselves. I'm not sure I've ever seen her smile that big. She especially enjoyed playing with the fruit and veg stand.

Joeys has a genuine love of all things miniature so she really loved this whole set but be aware the toys are very small so definitely not for any children who put things in their mouths.

I loved seeing my daughter play with these toys and watch her imagination come to life. Apparently all the little Shopkins fit right in with her miniature ponies and princesses.

I would definitely recommend Shopkins to parents with young girls. The toys are bright and cheerful. Each set comes with multiple Shopkins characters and accessories. With their low and affordable price ranging from $3.99 to $29.99, this is definitely a must have, especially with the Holidays coming up.

For more information about all the Shopkins sets and more, be sure to check out their website.

Disclosure: All opinions are my own. I received the complete collection of Shopkins at no cost for the purpose of this review. No other compensation was received.

Playtex Binky Review #MomTrust

Finding the perfect Binky (pacifier) for your little one can be hard. It really does depend on what your baby likes and how well they take to it. With our little one being seven weeks, it took a couple of tries before we found the perfect Binky that works just for her.

Luckily, I was given a few different ones as gifts, so I didn't have to go out to the store and buy one, but if you are in the position where you need to head to the store to find a Binky that will help sooth your little one, I would recommend, Playtex's original Binky. It provides your little with soothing and calming comfort. It took a couple of tries with different pacifiers before we decided to open up our Playtex Binky, but I'm so glad we did because she got use to it right a way and loves it.

What I love about this binky is that it has a ring for easy grip and I love that it comes with a sterilizing case to keep dirt out and kills 99.9% of bacteria. This is perfect for when you're traveling.

The Binky comes with a soft shield designed for greater air flow to help prevent skin irritation for your baby and its unique Snug 'N Place Ring prevents the ring from flopping around so it doesn't disturb your baby when they're sleeping. It's also made with silicone material that is very durable and easy to clean.

The Binky is not only soothing for your child, but it's also inexpensive and affordable. You can find the Binky retailing for around $5.49. For more information about the Binky and other Playtex items, be sure to head on over to Playtex's website.
Disclosure: I receive special perks as a part of my affiliation with the Playtex Mom Trust program. The opinions on this blog are my own.

Title: Who R U Really?
By: Margo Kelly
Publisher: Merit Press
Publication Date: September 18, 2014
ISBN: 9781440572760
Pages: 240

Thea's overprotective parents are driving her insane. They invade her privacy, ask too many questions, and restrict her online time so severely that Thea feels she has no life at all. When she discovers a new role-playing game online, Thea breaks the rules by staying up late to play. She's living a double life: on one hand, the obedient daughter; on the other, a girl slipping deeper into darkness. In the world of the game, Thea falls under the spell of Kit, an older boy whose smarts and savvy can't defeat his loneliness and near-suicidal despair. As Kit draws soft-hearted Thea into his drama, she creates a full plate of cover stories for her parents and then even her friends.
Soon, Thea is all alone in the dark world with Kit, who worries her more and more, but also seems to be the only person who really "gets" her. Is he frightening, the way he seems sometimes, or only terribly sad? Should Thea fear Kit, or pity him? And now, Kit wants to come out of the screen and bring Thea into his real-life world. As much as she suspects that this is wrong, Thea is powerless to resist Kit's allure, and hurtles toward the same dark fate her parents feared most. Ripped from a true-life story of Internet stalking, Who R U Really? will excite you and scare you, as Thea's life spins out of control.
MY REVIEW
This was such a good book. Definitely will be passing this over to both my teenage niece and nephew to give a read. We live in such a tech-savy society this story fits right in to what happens sometimes to kids these days. Not only kids, but adults too. With social media being so heavy in our every day lives, we are constantly coming across people we have never met before in person. It's hard to tell if they are who they say they are or to even confine in them once you've been chatting with them for a while.

A story that all of us should read because there are lots of people with online relationships, how can you really tell a person is who they say they are until you actually meet them? I don't want to give away too many spoilers, but I will say that this you can't let yourself easily trust strangers that you meet online. Not to say everyone is crazy and something bad will happen, but you do need to have your guard up in case the person you are communicating with isn't the person you think they are. This was a great read that opened my eyes even more about the internet.

GIVEAWAY:
We are offering two of our Just Us Girls readers a chance at winning your very own copy of, Who R U Really by Margo Kelly. Leave a comment letting us know what you do to protect yourself when talking to people online on social media sites?

Good Quality Backpacks from @StaplesCanada #BTS (Review)

One of the things my kids look forward to when shopping back to school is picking out the one thing that all of their schoolmates and friends will see, their backpack. It has to not only look stylish and cool for the kids, but for me, it has to be durable and last them throughout the entire school year.

School has been in session for going on three weeks and already my daughter has come home with her backpack full of books. I have to say I'm pretty impressed with how durable her backpack is and what all she can store in it.

When looking for backpacks this year, Staples Canada had just what we needed. They have a variety of different backpacks for kids of all ages. For my daughter, we decided to go with the Foxy Jean Pink Leopard Pink Backpack.

It definitely represents her personality, she's a girly girl and loves pink. I love that the backpack has lots of storage space. It has a large main compartment with two sided zipped pockets. It also has two smaller compartments with the front compartment having an organizer to hold for other accessories she can carry with her.

For my son we got the Lug Outfielder Camo Backpack and matching Lug Outfielder Lunch Bag. Both look super cool and are pretty awesome. There is so much storage for tons of school supplies. There's six exterior zip compartments, a pocket for his tablet (he doesn't bring it to school ,but I love that it has a pocket for him in case he ever does need to bring it.) a luggage strap that easily slides on to a suitcase handle and a water bottle holder.

I absolutely love this backpack, definitely a great fit for my son. Durable and can last throughout the year. The lunch bag is insulated to keep his food fresh and hot and cold It has a zip pocket on the back that's great for adding napkins or utensils. It also has a strap that you can easily attach to the backpack, which I find comes in handy.

Both backpacks are not only stylish for my kids to wear, but also made with great quality so that it can last the entire school year. For more information on backpacks from Staples be sure to check them out online.

Back To School Must Haves with @DudleyCanada (Review & Giveaway)

With school fully in swing, the kids are getting use to their routine and have pretty much everything that they need for school as far as school accessories. Before school started, we went shopping and got the basics, you know, backpack, paper, folders, pencils, markers, crayons, the usual, but I was pretty excited when we received a few things from Dudley Canada. We received both Dudley's Fully Loaded Lunch Bag and their Load N Lock Pencil Pod.

I was pretty impressed with both items. My daughter absolutely loved both as she is using them for her grade four school year. The Fully Loaded Lunch Bag is pretty awesome. It not only comes insulated so that it helps keep your food fresh throughout the day, but the depth in the lunch bag will allow you to store your lunch and tons of snacks that will help your child throughout their school day when they're feeling hungry.

I also love that it comes with two front zipper compartments that allow for storage. This is great to put wet naps or napkins in there to help keep your kid's hands clean. It also has a top compartment that allows for storage, like, silverware, juice boxes or anything else you can think of. This lunch bag is perfect for kids of all ages. It would even be perfect for adults to take to lunch and best of all it's affordable retailing at $14.99.

Now, my daughter was super excited about Dudley's Load N Lock Pencil Pod. I think one of the main reasons was because it has a three digit combination lock, so she can make sure that her items are secure and safe. What I love about this pencil pod is that it has room for more than just pencils. There's a hard see through compartment where you can store items that's easy to access along with a larger storage space inside that allows your child to store a bit more.

The pencil pod also has a rotating divider that has two elastic straps, and an elastic rubber band that securely holds whatever item your child wants to keep in their pencil case. My daughter stored her calculator in this area, which fit perfectly and allows for her to also bring another item to school. These pencil pods comes in blue, pink, metallic, silver, green and purple and also retails for $14.99.

For more information on the Fully Loaded Lunch Bag, the Load N Lock Pencil Pod and other great products from Dudley, be sure to head on over to their website. You can also follow them on Facebook and Twitter.

Disclosure: All opinions are my own. I received a Fully Loaded Lunch Bag & Load N Lock Pencil Pod at no cost for the purpose of this review. No other compensation was received.

GIVEAWAY

Both of these items are great must haves for your child this school year. So Dudley is offering one Canadian Just Us Girls reader a chance at winning both, a Fully Loaded Lunch Bag and a Load and Lock Pencil Pod!

Healthy After-school Snacks with @Yonanas (Review & Giveaway)

We've been in school for a full two weeks and I'm glad to report that the two oldest kids are adjusting really well in their classes. I get to meet their teachers this week for Back to School Night and I'm excited because I've already talked with my son's teacher over the phone. She called to let me know how much she enjoys having my son in her class. Definitely made me one proud mama.

I've been on a roll with preparing the kids school lunches the night before, which definitely saves a lot of time when getting ready in the mornings. As far as after-school snacks goes, I usually have something for the kids on the table for when they get off the bus. Normally fruit cut up, veggies and dip or cheese and crackers.

Last week the kids were in for a treat. We were sent the Yonanas Banana Ice Cream Maker to try. Not only did they get a nice frozen treat, but they also got to help make it. They definitely enjoyed making their very own ice cream and I loved that it was made with all fresh fruit, no added sugars, so it was definitely a healthy, but delicious snack that I don't mind the kids having.

So basically how the Yonanas machine works is you need to have some frozen bananas. This is the base of your ice cream. You can then add any other frozen fruit your heart desires. We added strawberries and blueberries and made a mixed berry ice cream. It turned out delicious.

To make your ice cream you first need to peel, cut and freeze your fruit. Then once frozen you want it to thaw out a bit so that your ice cream is a good creamy texture. We let our fruit freeze overnight and had it thaw out for about 10-15 minutes before we used it. Once you're ready to make your treat you turn on your machine, insert your banana in the chute and then push it down with the plunger. You then can add in your other frozen fruit as well. Once you're done you then mix up both the banana and other fruit together to create your frozen treat. It's easy and simple to use and even the kids can help out with it. This is such a great after school snack and also a great dessert as well.

After you're done taking apart and cleaning the machine is just as simple as making your frozen treat. All you do is separate all the parts in the chute and wash them with warm soapy water. You can even add them in the dishwasher since they're dishwasher safe.

The best part about this machine is that there are a number of different recipes you can create using not only fruit, but also cookies and chocolate if you wanted to add in some sugar sweets. Your machine comes with a recipe book, but you can also follow Yonanas on Facebook and Twitter to find more recipes they've created.
Disclosure: All opinions are my own. I received a Yonanas machine at no cost for the purpose of this review. No other compensation was received.
GIVEAWAY!
Yonanas is giving one lucky Just Us Girls American reader a chance at winning their very own Yonanas machine!

Back To Our Regular Schedule #StreamTeam

SCHOOL IS BACK.......

Our house is finally back to our regular routine and schedule. Boy have I missed it. Back to bed times, making lunches at night, daily homework and dare I say it, a quiet house by 8:30, well besides the newborn.

I am happy to report that the newest member of our family is getting use to our schedule and I love that she goes to sleep for a few hours right before the older kids and let's me get a few things done, like, straitening up the house and making lunches for the next day.

While we seem to be all settled in with our normal routine again, we still allow the kiddos to watch a couple shows at night before bed and the one place they go to find a show to watch is Netflix.

I love that Netflix has something for everyone, no matter how old or young you are. I also love that they have a few shows and movies that can help us get use to being back on a schedule. Shows that help remind the kids to have manners, friendship and teamwork.

I've listed below a few family favorites that are perfect to watch to get your family back to your normal routine after Summer Break.

My kid's favorite is My Little Pony. Yes, both my son and daughter love this show and what I love most about it, is that it teaches my children to value their friendships with their classmates and friends at school. My daughter and I both love watching Glee, we both love that they sing some of favorite songs and I also love that it teaches my daughter about teamwork. A family favorite that we all love is Shrek, which is a great movie that teaches us about family and friendship. Who doesn't love the Shrek movies?

What are some of your favorite shows and/or movies you and your family love to watch together?
Disclosure: I am part of the Stream Team Campaign with Netflix and I receive special perks as part of my affiliation with this group. The opinions on this blog are my own.

Cake Mix Halloween Cookies #Recipe

Summer has come to an end and although I'm going to miss it terribly, I am excited that my second favorite season has arrived. I absolutely love FALL! I love that I bake like crazy and that I get to snuggle up on the couch with my favorite throw blanket while sipping on my favorite Apple Cider or Salted Caramel Pumpkin Latte watching a family movie with the kids. I love how the leaves turn and how I still have time before I'm dressing in layers.

Another thing I love about Fall is that with it comes Halloween. It's one of my favorite holidays. During the month of October I bake Halloween treats for the kids to enjoy and we also watch our favorite Halloween movies together (Hocus Pocus and Halloweentown are my fav!).

One thing I love to bake with the kiddos is Halloween cookies. I especially love them if they take little to no time to make and doesn't require lots of ingredients. I've shared with you before how I made cookies using a cake mix, now I want to share with you how I made them with a Halloween twist.

They require a few ingredients and within no time you and your family will be able to enjoy these delicious cookies that are soft and chewy. The best part about these cookies is that you can use any kind of cake mix you want and add any kind of extra sweet goodies to make them unique, it's literally three ingredients as the base and whatever else you want to add!

CAKE MIX HALLOWEEN COOKIES
Ingredients:
French Vanilla Cake Mix
2 Large Eggs, well beaten
1/2 cup Unsalted Butter, room temperature
1/2 cup Mini Reese Pieces
1/2 cup Peanut Butter Chips

Directions
Preheat your oven to 350F. Spray your baking tray with cooking spray.
In a medium bowl combine all ingredients until your mixture is smooth.
Portion into 1 tablespoon sized balls of the mixture and place on baking tray.
Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool and serve.

O.B. Pro Comfort Review & Giveaway #Giveusoneperiod

I have never been a tampons kind of girl. I think it's mainly because I had a bad experience with them when I was in seventh grade. Let's just say, I had to have my mom bring me in a change of clothes. The only time you will catch me wearing one is when I'm getting in a pool or at the beach. Although I've gotten use to them ever since my bad experience in seventh grade, I never found the ones that I'd love to wear throughout my entire time when I'm on my menstrual cycle.

So when I was sent a box of the new O.B. Pro Comfort, I was a bit nervous to try them, especially since it's not only do I not wear tampons a lot, but the pro comfort has no applicator to help you put the tampon in, but I actually kind of prefer it like this. By putting the tampon in with your finger, you're able to insert in your tampon in a comfortable position and follow the natural curve of your vagina. I found this to be great since when I normally use a tampon that has an applicator it takes a while before I feel comfortable.

I still was nervous to have the tampon in for a long period of time, but I did last a full six hours. I didn't leave the house, but I did clean the house, move around a lot and had no problem with leakage whatsoever. This definitely makes me feel a lot better about using tampons. Since using them the first time, I've been out to the movies and dinner and have had no problems.

O.B. Pro Comfort may look like it won't protect you for the full eight hours because of how small it is, but its fluidlock grooves draw fluid into the centre core of the tampon, all while expanding it to fit your unique shape. This gives you up to 8 hours of amazing protection. I love that it's small enough to fit in your pocket and takes little to no room in your purse so you have room to add more items.

For more information about O.B. Tampons, head on over to www.giveusoneperiod.ca

Must Have Diaper Bag Essentials! #DisneyBabyCA (Giveaway)

It's been six weeks since our little girl was born. Six weeks of me remembering what having a newborn in the house felt like seven years ago. I love it. It's exhausting and exciting all at once. The little one is finally sleeping almost through the night. She only wakes up now for one feeding now, which has helped me out so much.

Right before the kids went back to school, I made sure they were scheduled for doctors, dentist and eye doctor appointments, which meant we were running in and out of the house a lot. One thing I did was made sure that my diaper bag was filled with everything I could possibly need while waiting for my kids at their appointments. We all know waiting at both the doctors and dentists could take a while and with a baby on board, it's best to always be prepared in case anything happens.

Disney Baby has provided a list below of items to have on hand in your Diaper Bag:

1.  Diapers, diapers and more diapers!
This may seem like a no-brainer, but it’s important to keep plenty of diapers on hand. Bring one for every hour you’ll be out, plus one more – you don’t want to get caught without!

2. Don’t be without wipes
Keep some wipes in a handy travel size container. These are great for keeping baby clean post changing and are useful for wiping down sticky fingers and faces, dirty surfaces and changing pads as well.

3.  Diaper Rash Cream
Pick up a small tube and keep it ready at hand. You never know when diaper rash could develop, and you don’t want your baby to be uncomfortable when you’re nowhere near home!

4.  Pack a changing pad
Many diaper bags, including this Mickey Mouse one, come with changing pads inside. Changing pads make dealing with diapers a clean and comfortable experience, especially when there isn’t a changing table available.

5.  Extra clothing
No matter how prepared you are, accidents can happen, trust me! When you’re on the move with a baby, any number of things could necessitate a wardrobe change. This happened to me and the baby a couple weeks ago while out shopping. I had to rush into the family bathroom to change her diaper, clean her all up and use the extra set of clothes I packed. Extra clothes ALWAYS comes in handy. Disney Baby has plenty of adorable Layette sets, available at all major retail locations – check out these super cute body suits for inspiration! They will fit neatly in your bag, so your baby can stay stylish, even on the run.

6.  Bring a selection of snacks
If your baby is bottle feeding, keep some formula ready at hand. If your baby is older, take some snacks in a reusable container and fill a learner cup with water or juice.
I always make sure to have these items on me when I head out the door with the baby. What are some items you pack in your diaper bag for your little one?

GIVEAWAY:
We are offering one Canadian Just Us Girls reader a chance at winning a Minnie Mouse Bundle Prize Pack. Leave a comment letting us know what are your must have items you need in your diaper bag. The Minnie Mouse Bundle Prize Pack includes:

A Minnie Mouse SoftPal night light
A set of Minnie Mouse orthodontic bottles
