Learning New Hobbies With DK Canada

Like many others around the globe right now, I’m spending these couple of weeks at home, watching, reading, learning. Finding new ways to connect and reflect. What a hectic few weeks it has been for so many! I couldn’t be more excited to get an opportunity to select three books from our friends at DK Canada and share them with you.

I started off with: Your Well-Being Garden, How to Make Your Garden Good For You by Alistair Griffiths and Matt Keightley. Right from the get-go, amidst a global pandemic, even just READING this gardening book filled me with comfort. Stunning pictures, this book is packed with information for every level of gardener, it’s a beginner’s thrill for me. Chapters filled with all sorts of helpful information on things like healthy soil, growing your own food, attracting pollinators and sustainable gardens (my fav!) It covers everything from garden designs to selecting the perfect fragrances and, of course, how to make your garden good for you! Your Well-Being Garden is retailed for $29.99.

My second read this week is Photography by Tom Ang. To say this book is visually appealing is an understatement. This book is beautifully designed, page-by-page. Excellent conversation piece and coffee table-worthy for sure! Packed with galleries of photos and tightly organized topics covering history of photography, art and techniques, it covers everything. Every single page has something fantastic to glue your eyes to. It’s a winner in my book and is retailed for $39.00.

My next and last mission: The Knitting Book by Vikki Haffenden & Frederica Patmore. Knitting is a craft I have always admired and always wanted to learn. The attractive colourful pages promise to make an experienced knitter out of anyone, even if you’ve never held a pair of knitting needles before. And lucky for me, I never have! This book is beautifully designed and organized by colour-coded tabs covering everything from basic tools and materials to varying degrees of knitting techniques and contains an awesome collection of stitch patterns. I’ll admit, I need a bit more practice but following along in the easy-to-use instructions was a blast! The Knitting Book is retailed for $52.00.

All three books was such a great distraction to have when I needed to unplug from the online world and for us keeping our social distancing from friends and family. I picked up a new hobby with The Knitting Book, learned some new tricks to apply to my garden and the Photography book was just beautiful to look through. I'd definitely recommend all three books and if you get a chance to get your hands on one and check it out, please let me know in the comments!

DOLITTLE Blu-ray Giveaway #DolittleMovie

Are you ready to hear Robert Downey Jr. talk to animals?! I know I am! I'm super excited to share with our readers that we're hosting a giveaway for two Canadian readers to have a chance at winning their own copy of the movie, Dolittle on blu-ray, in celebration of the movie being released on digital download today, March 24th!

I don't remember watching the original movie, but I did see Dr. Dolittle with Eddie Murphy when I was younger and absolutely loved it. We just recently watched it with the kids so we can talk about the difference between the movies. My family and I are super excited to share our review with you all in a couple weeks.

Robert Downey Jr. electrifies as the man who could talk to animals: DOLITTLE. After losing his wife, he hermits himself away behind the high wall of his manor but is forced to set sail on an epic adventure when the queen falls gravely ill. Helping Dolittle in search of a rare cure are his rambunctious animal friends—including Chee-Chee (Malek), an anxious, self-conscious gorilla; Dab-Dab (Octavia Spencer, The Help), an enthusiastic but bird-brained duck; the bickering duo of cynical, neurotic ostrich Plimpton (Kumail Nanjiani, The Big Sick, “Silicon Valley”) and chilly-but-chill polar bear Yoshi (Cena); as well as a headstrong parrot named Polynesia (Thompson).

Dolittle is available on digital download now and on 4K Ultra HD™, BLU-RAY™ and DVD: April 7, 2020. For more information about Dolittle,  be sure to head to their website, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram!

To enter the giveaway, leave a comment below sharing which animal you'd love the ability to talk to with.

Just Mercy Blu-ray Review #JustMercy

A powerful and thought-provoking true story, “Just Mercy” follows young lawyer Bryan Stevenson (Jordan) and his history-making battle for justice. After graduating from Harvard, Bryan had his pick of lucrative jobs. Instead, he heads to Alabama to defend those wrongly condemned or who were not afforded proper representation, with the support of local advocate Eva Ansley (Larson). One of his first, and most incendiary, cases is that of Walter McMillian (Foxx), who, in 1987, was sentenced to die for the notorious murder of an 18-year-old girl, despite a preponderance of evidence proving his innocence and the fact that the only testimony against him came from a criminal with a motive to lie. In the years that follow, Bryan becomes embroiled in a labyrinth of legal and political maneuverings and overt and unabashed racism as he fights for Walter, and others like him, with the odds—and the system—stacked against them.

When I first heard about the movie, Just Mercy, I was watching Ellen when Michael B. Jordan came on stage to promote it. Then after learning that this movie was based on a true story and that the person he portrayed, Bryan Stevenson, was also a guest on the show, I had to go out and get the book the movie is based off of. I did. I read it within a few days and then I was very excited to get sent the movie to review.

This movie has an amazing cast, each person portraying a real person and acting their heart out, you can tell that a lot of work went into making this movie to show people what can happen when racism is involved. I'm a black woman and grew up in a black family. I'm no stranger to seeing and witnessing racism growing up towards myself and members of my family. So this movie did hit close to home seeing someone get sentence for most of their life for a crime they didn't commit just because of the colour of their skin. I cried. A lot. I cried because this happened in the past to many innocent people because of the colour of their skin and because racism issues like this are still happening today, decades later.

The film begins in the year 1987, the year Walter McMillian is arrested for a crime her did not commit because of one coerced testimony. You can tell from the arrest and the coerced testimony that the sheriff is under a lot of pressure and is just trying to wrap this case up as fast as he can to solve the murder of a white woman.

Most of the movie is focused on Bryan Stevenson, as he graduates from Harvard in the early 90's and moves to Alabama to take on this case (among others) to prove that Walter is innocent. We see Bryan file for many appeals to get a wrongful conviction and witness racism throughout the system, starting from the sheriff all the way to the judge. Throughout this case we see Bryan receiving racism towards him as well for trying to get his client out, from being pulled over by cops, to having to strip down to visit his client, we see how far the system goes when hate is involved.

A story that should be watched by all, Just Mercy is now available today, March 24th, on digital download and you can catch the release of this film on blu-ray and DVD April 14th! For more information about Just Mercy, be sure to head over to Warner Bros.

Disclosure: All opinions are my own. I received Just Mercy on blu-ray at no cost for the purpose of this review. No other compensation was received.

I Still Believe Review & Giveaway #IStillBelieve #FaithFilmsCA

One love can change your life. One life can change the world. From the creators of I CAN ONLY IMAGINE comes an inspiring love story for the ages. Rediscover the wonder of love in I STILL BELIEVE, based on the real-life story of chart-topping singer Jeremy Camp.

When I first heard about Jeremy Camp, it was about eight years ago. I received his Christmas album, Christmas: God With Us, and fell in love with it. I still listen to that album during the holiday season as well as his Reckless album I got a chance to review. So when I got the opportunity to watch an early screening of the movie, I Still Believe, based on how he got started and how he met and fell in love with his first wife, Melissa, I was very excited to see it. I love that through this movie I got to learn a little bit more about Jeremy and his journey about love and loss. Another reason I was excited to watch this movie was because it stars both KJ Apa and Britt Robertson, who also star in the movie, A Dog’s Purpose together. There is just something about their chemistry because like in the movie, A Dog’s Purpose, in I Still Believe, you see their chemistry a lot more and how well they go together.

When we first see Jeremy in, I Still Believe, he is packing and leaving his family home in Indiana to attend a Christian college in California. Before he leaves his father tries to give him his guitar and when Jeremy declines his father’s guitar, he is later handed a brand new one from his dad before getting on the bus to head to school. While attending school he meets fellow singer, Jean-Luc, who he forms a great friendship with and who he later learns is great friends with Melissa and the three start to hangout together. It’s when Jeremy and Melissa start to develop feelings for one another is when Jeremy learns that Jean-Luc also share the same feelings towards Melissa, but she only sees Jean-Luc as a friend.

As Melissa and Jeremy’s feelings and relationship grows, an argument happens between the two and they both call it quits. It’s when Jeremy is home for the holidays and gets a call from Jean-Luc about Melissa being sick in the hospital is when Jeremy rushes to her side. It’s then where he learns that Melissa is diagnosed with cancer. From that day forward he never leaves her side.

Throughout their story together, we see them fight to stay strong and to keep their faith alive. We see the good, where Melissa and Jeremy finally get married and we see the hard times when her cancer returns and we see how strong Melissa is as she puts her faith in God and in hopes to getting better. The highs and lows in this movie sent me on an emotional roller-coaster. I smiled, laughed and more than anything, I cried a lot throughout this film. So be sure to bring a box of tissues. Seeing the love these two people have for one another and how much they believe in one another just warmed my heart. Not only their love for one another, but how much they believe in God and have faith that everything will happen the way it’s supposed to.

I Still Believe is such a heart-warming movie that shares the message that through love and loss, there is always hope in the middle of tragedy with a bit of faith.
I Still Believe will be in theatres throughout Canada, starting Friday, March 13th! I’m excited to share with our Canadian readers a chance to win tickets to go and see this beautiful movie. All you need to do is leave a comment below and share with me a memorable date you’ve had or if you’ve never been on a date, share with us your dream date. That’s it!

Infliction: Extended Cut for Xbox One (Videogame Review)

Wander through an interactive nightmare set within the confines of a once-happy household. Piece together the mystery behind a harrowing series of events while struggling to survive encounters with an entity that relentlessly stands in the way of finding absolution.

Explore a home crystalized by tragedy and uncover the heartbreaking secrets hidden within messages, artwork, household objects, and other vestiges of domestic life. Uncover clues and use items to unlock new paths and make discoveries while doing everything possible to avoid the malevolent presence inhabiting the residence. Hide under tables or beneath beds and harness light sources like camera flashes to stun the spirit and momentarily elude its pursuit.

Infliction couples a story-driven approach to horror with a dynamic atmosphere to produce an unsettling and unpredictable first-person experience that deals in mature subject matter. Imbuing familiar elements of everyday life with the supernatural, Infliction delivers a terrifying otherworldly adventure that hits frighteningly close to home.

Infliction: Extended Cut was definitely an interesting game to play. The graphic quality was great and the resolution wasn't too bad either. It was fairly interactive and left a little to the imagination. Almost every object in this game was given the option for inspection, which gave the whole detective aspect a plus.

I had a little difficulty with the first objective which only made it all the more interesting. It didn't follow too many cliches & stuck to its original plot. Never straying too far, but still leaving enough for the player to imagine– all in all, it was definitely a game I'd suggest for a friend to play at midnight just for kicks because playing in the dark gave this game a more creepy vibe that left me spooked at times.

Infliction: Extended cut is now available on both Xbox One and Playstation 4 and you can play Infliction on Steam, Xbox One, Playstation 4 and soon on Nintendo Switch.

For more on Infliction: Extended Cut, visit the official site.

The kit we received came with the DVD, fairy wings, heart shaped mold for us to bake with and her very own Butterbean's Cafe magical whisk, along with some recipe cards for us to make some treats together, she was over the moon. She quickly put the wings on and grabbed her magical whisk and asked me if she could watch the DVD.

Disney's Frozen 2 Review & Giveaway

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the follow-up to 2013’s hit Oscar®-winning Best Animated Feature,“Frozen,” comes home, with a sing-along version and all-new extras, on Digital in 4K Ultra HD on Feb. 11, and on 4K Ultra HD™, Blu-ray™ and DVD on Feb. 25. “Frozen 2” bonus features include deleted scenes, deleted songs, Easter eggs, outtakes and a sing-along version with lyrics to the film’s forever-infectious songs. Extras invite viewers to go behind-the-scenes to hear personal, making-of stories from the “Frozen 2” cast and crew. Fans who bring the film home early on Digital will receive two exclusive extras: an interview with songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, who won an Oscar® for Best Original Song (“Let It Go,” 2014) and wrote seven original songs for “Frozen 2,” and a deleted song titled “Unmeltable Me.”

Some things never change, like the love that we feel for Frozen 2! our favourite characters are back at it again with a new adventure and catchy songs that will warm your heart. and let me just tell you this sequel lived up to the hype and was definitely worth the wait.

We were fortunate enough to see this movie in theatres and when we left, even my older teens were happy to have come along to watch it. And ever since we’ve seen it in theatre, there hasn’t been a full day where someone in my house doesn’t play a song from the movie or runs around the house saying, “Samantha?” out of nowhere, lol.

The movie opens up with our two favourite sisters from Arendelle, but when they were younger and playing in a small snow enchanted forest that Elsa created. They’re dad calls out to them both saying they have to get ready for bed. Seeing Elsa and Anna when they were little ones was one of my five year old’s favourite part. As they’re getting ready for bed their dad shares a story from his past that later comes in to play in the movie and then their mother sings them a bedtime song. This is the first of many beautiful songs to come in this movie.

As we come back to the present we see all of our favourite characters, including Olaf, Kristoff and Sven. This time around we see the group as a family and how happy everyone is, but something is calling for Elsa. A voice she tries to shut out, but eventually she has to go in order to help her find her true self as well as help the village she loves. This is where the group sets off and finds the Enchanted Forest. Throughout the movie we see all the characters trying to find a way to help Elsa become who she’s meant to be as well as keeping their village safe. This was such an amazing sequel and from beginning to end it was loved by my entire family. If you and your family were a fan of Frozen, Frozen 2 is definitely a must watch. Filled with lots of memorable catchy songs, new and old characters and a story-line that will just make your heart warm.

I’m so excited to collaborate with Disney Canada to offer one of our Canadian readers a chance to win your very own copy of Frozen 2. To enter comment below sharing you or your child’s favourite character from Frozen.

Saint X By Alexis Schaitkin (Book Review)

Title: Saint X
By: Alexis Schaitkin
Publisher: Celadon Books
Publication Date: February 18, 2020
ISBN: 9781250219596
Pages: 352

Claire is only seven years old when her college-age sister, Alison, disappears on the last night of their family vacation at a resort on the Caribbean island of Saint X. Several days later, Alison’s body is found in a remote spot on a nearby cay, and two local men – employees at the resort - are arrested. But the evidence is slim, the timeline against it, and the men are soon released. The story turns into national tabloid news, a lurid mystery that will go unsolved. For Claire and her parents, there is only the return home to broken lives.

Years later, Claire is living and working in New York City when a brief but fateful encounter brings her together with Clive Richardson, one of the men originally suspected of murdering her sister. It is a moment that sets Claire on an obsessive pursuit of the truth - not only to find out what happened the night of Alison’s death but also to answer the elusive question: Who exactly was her sister? At seven, Claire had been barely old enough to know her: a beautiful, changeable, provocative girl of eighteen at a turbulent moment of identity formation.

As Claire doggedly shadows Clive, hoping to gain his trust, waiting for the slip that will reveal the truth, an unlikely attachment develops between them, two people whose lives were forever marked by the same tragedy.

I have become such a big fan of the thriller/mystery genre of books lately, so when I got a chance to review Saint X a couple months back, courtesy of Celadon Books, I was so excited because this was a book that was on my wishlist.

The story starts off in the 90's where we're introduced to a family on a family vacation at a tropical island, that doesn't end well. Their  18 year oldt daughter, Alison, goes missing and then eventually her body is found, washed up on the beach, by a couple in Faraway Cay. The police investigates everyone they can, including the boy that Alison was hanging out with a few times, but find no motive and eventually the case is left cold. Alison's younger sister, Claire is seven years old at the time and although Claire thought the world of her sister, following her every move and hanging on her every word, the night when she falls asleep Claire had no idea that would be the night that she would never see her sister alive again.

We're taken to the present, years later when Claire is an adult and she is living in New York City now. One day she steps into a cab and imagine her surprise when the cab driver is the same boy (man) who was questioned all those years ago for Alison's murder. This brings up so many questions and unresolved answers Claire has about who killed her sister during their family vacation and who her older sister really was.

This was a fantastic story! I absolutely loved the writing in this story and the topics the author wasn't afraid to talk about, racism, how people get treated when they have money compared to when they're less fortunate. We also get a good look into who Alison really was and why Claire is the way she is.

What I loved about this story was how deep the author went when it came to Claire investigating the unsolved murder of her sister. Reading it felt as if I was doing the investigation as well with all the interviews, audio clips, diaries and autopsy reports and that ending is such a shocker. I am obsessed with this story and I encourage you all to pick this up as it is out in stores today! If you're looking for a great new mystery story to read, I highly recommend Saint X!

BABY Born Surprise: Bathtub Surprise Review

My two youngest daughters love everything related to dolls/babies and accessories! They are always wanting new dolls to add to their collection to play with, so they were beyond excited when I presented them with the Baby Born Bathtub Surprise.

What a super cute baby doll this is! This baby comes with so many stages of discovery which kept my kids intrigued and entertained for quite some time. You start by wiping the baby's eyes to discover what color they are and from there you can place the baby in the water filled bathtub to find out what color hair your newly purchased baby has! I don’t know about you but, my kids get even more excited when they get to use water with toys so a real bath for their doll was truly the best part for them. Did I forget to mention this doll come with it’s own bathtub that is such a great size?!

The hair color changes when ice water is poured on the dolls head and will remain for a few minutes and then returns to the initial color out of the package. This allows for the kids to play with the doll over and over again as if it were the first time!

The doll also comes with a packaged t-shirt that will reveal itself once submerged in water which was yet another super exciting component that my daughters absolutely loved. Hold on though still more to this doll! In the package comes two diapers, a baby bottle, and a little chain link bracelet. This allows the kids to diaper the baby and feed it with a water filled bottle. Once the baby has had enough to drink, the diaper becomes wet and then the discovery of two different charms to be connected to the doll’s bracelet.

My girls really enjoyed this doll and I was very impressed with all the components and the quality of each piece. This doll has everything for a child who loves to role play as a mommy or daddy. It's been well over a month since I introduced this doll to my two girls and they are still loving her. I would definitely recommend this doll as it is a great addition to our doll collection!

For more information on BABY Born Surprise: Bathtub Surprise be sure to head over to their website, there you will be able to find where you can purchase this amazing doll for your little ones!

iRobot® Braava jet™ m6 Review #HolidayGiftGuide

When it comes to mopping, let me tell you, it's not my favourite thing to do. I mean, I love the end results, but as a busy mom of three, sometimes I feel like all I'm doing is constantly cleaning or trying to at least keep the house presentable for my own sanity. I have three kids and an eight month old bernedoodle, so they keep me on my toes when it comes to making sure our floors are clean, especially during the Winter and Spring months.

I shared earlier this week about being sent the Roomba s9+ from iRobot and I'm so excited to share with you all about the Braava jet m6 they sent me as well. The Wi-Fi® connected Braava jet® m6 robot mop delivers fresh, clean floors throughout the entire home – learning, mapping and adapting from room to room. Aimed for multiple rooms and large spaces, it helps tackle all of life’s messes on hard floors. By simply attaching a wet mopping or dry sweeping pad to the robot mop and it automatically takes it from there to give you fresh, clean floors without all the work. Making life easier and giving you more time to enjoy the things you love, like, spending more time with your family.
If you read my review on the Roomba s9+, you'll remember that over the holidays my family and I got the flu and it was basically the entire two weeks of not really having the energy to clean or do anything, but rest so that we would all be good to go when winter break was over. Luckily I had both the Roomba and Braava jet sent to me because as I got the energy to put the dishes in the dishwasher and straighten up some of the rooms in the house, I counted on the Braava jet to clean my floors and it did not disappoint.

It was very easy to set up right out of the box. It came with the mop, the charger, cleaning solution and two dry and wet mop pads to add to the Braava jet giving you the option to do a dry sweep or wet mop to your floors. The Wet Mopping pads have wicking fibers to help break-up sticky messes, grime and kitchen grease and the Dry Sweeping pads use electrostatic force to capture dirt, dust, and (pet) hair.

I was very impressed on how easy it was to put the mop together and get it running. After already having the iRobot app downloaded on my phone, all I had to do was sync the mop to my app and I was ready to have my floors mopped. With it's Precision Jet Spray, it loosens dirt and stains, while Braava jet® pads break up and lock away debris. The m6 comes with bigger pads2 to cover more ground in one pass, and clean larger spaces in less time.

Using the same iAdapt 3.0 Navigation with vSLAM technology and Imprint Smart Mapping as the Roomba s9+, the Braava jet gets to know your home’s floor plan, giving you total control to choose which rooms are cleaned and when. This is one of my all time favorite features on this mop, I love that I can schedule a day and time for my floors to get mopped or if I'm downstairs enjoying some family time or alone time, I can just open my app, hit CLEAN and let the Braava jet m6 go to town on my floors. Once it's down cleaning, it makes its way back to its base where it can recharge for the next time. I also love that this mop has Maximized-Edge design to help the robot get into hard corners and along edges, it really gets into those hard places that are tough to reach and does an amazing job at getting your floors clean.

Another favourite feature is the Easy Pad Ejection button! You never have to touch the dirty cleaning pads again, all you have to do is simply press the button and the pad falls right into the trash. I absolutely love that this is a feature. I've used other mop devices and that was one thing that grossed me out, touching the dirty pads after I was done mopping the floors. This way I don't have to touch the dirty pad and all I have to do is replace it for the next time it runs to clean our floors.

This smart mop has saved me so much time when it comes to getting my house cleaned and allows me to have more time to focus on other things, like, laundry, something else that never seems to end. Looking forward to the day iRobot makes something to help with doing laundry, lol, fingers crossed!

The Braava jet m6 is retailed at $699.99 and available at www.irobot.ca, Amazon, Costco, Bed Bath and Beyond and in major retail stores. You can also purchase the Braava jet m6 Cleaning Pads that are retailed for $9.99 CAD for a box of seven cleaning pads and can be purchased on their website or wherever the Braava jet m6 is sold. Washable wet or dry cleaning pads retail for $34.99 CAD for a box of two pads and are also available on their website.

Yippee: A Family Streaming Service (Review & Giveaway)

With all the streaming services popping up lately, it can be hard to make a choice on which ones to subscribe to. Last year we finally said goodbye to cable because although I do love having shows and movies to watch that's automatically playing on the TV, it was getting pricey and I realized we barely watched anything that was on cable unless it was pre-recorded and even then, the shows or movies we recorded would be on our DVR box for months before anyone would watch them.

Last month my family and I were introduced to a new family streaming serviced called, Yippee. For only $7.99 a month, you can enjoy and stream safe, fun, valued-based shows for your family!

Yippee offers family friendly shows from VeggieTales to Youtube shows, there's something for the whole family from toddlers to ten year olds. Yippee offers a secure, curated environment that ensures your kids start out in a safe place and then stay in a safe place while streaming shows.

My husband and I have been showing our kiddos VeggieTales since we became parents almost 15 years ago. It's a show that's entertaining, colorful and always has a lesson to learn. Although my older two kiddos have stopped watching it, it's stilled played for my five year old and she loves this show. Not only does she love VeggieTales, but since we've been watching Yippee this last month, she's found a few other shows that she's been enjoying, like, Jay Jay The Jet Plane, Yancy and Friends and The Yippee Show!

Built on the best tech, you can stream Yippee on your TV, cell phone or computer and on Apple TV, Roku, Android TV, Fire TV and Chromecast. Watch where you want, when you want to, including offline downloads.

I'm excited to partner up with Yippee to offer one of our US reader's a prize pack giveaway so that your family can enjoy Yippee too! The giveaway is for a 3-month subscription to Yippee, Yippee coffee mug, Yippee t-shirt and a confetti blaster.

Disney's Maleficent: Mistress of Evil Blu-ray/DVD Review & Giveaway

In Disney's "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil," a sequel to the 2014 global box office hit, Maleficent and her goddaughter Aurora begin to question the complex family ties that bind them as they are pulled in different directions by impending nuptials, unexpected allies and dark new forces at play. The years have been kind to Maleficent and Aurora. Their relationship, born of heartbreak, revenge and ultimately love, has flourished. Yet the hatred between man and the fairies still exists. Aurora's impending marriage to Prince Phillip is cause for celebration in the kingdom of Ulstead and the neighboring Moors, as the wedding serves to unite the two worlds. When an unexpected encounter introduces a powerful new alliance, Maleficent and Aurora are pulled apart to opposing sides in a Great War, testing their loyalties and causing them to question whether they can truly be family.

In our house we do Disney, big time! We absolutely love watching Disney movies for our family movie night, so when we received Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, I knew we'd love it just as much as we did the first movie. Now although I didn't expect there to be a sequel to the first movie, my family and I were happy to see some of the characters we love back on screen. We sat down together, grabbed some of our favorite snacks to munch on and started the movie.

I thought the story-line to Aurora's wedding to Prince Phillip was done well and of the two kingdoms merging, but then you see the real agenda behind Queen Ingrith. She wants revenge against the Moor's fairies for the death of her brother when he visited Moor years ago and does so by turning the humans against the fairies and starting a war. Michelle Pfeiffer does an amazing job playing this evil queen. I am loving this new spin on Maleficent and how Disney is trying to portray her as misunderstood and have someone else be the "bad guy."

Not only was the movie great, but we loved the bonus features that included extended scenes and outtakes from Aurora's wedding as well as the CGI in this movie, it's beautiful.

In celebration of the release of Maleficent: Mistress of Evil coming out on blu-ray and DVD today, we have teamed up with Disney Canada to offer one of our Canadian readers a chance to win their own copy of the movie. All you have to do is comment below sharing with us who your favourite Disney villain is. Good luck to all!

Roomba s9+ Robot Vacuum w/ Clean Base™ Automatic Dirt Disposal Review #HolidayGiftGuide

Happy New Year, friends! I hope you all had a great time over the holidays. With it being the beginning of the year and New Year Resolutions being made, I've decided not to have a resolution per say, but to have a few different goals to achieve to help make this year a great year for my family and I. One of the things I've written down is to spend more quality time with family, life is too short and if I can save time on other things, like, cleaning, all the better.

So I was very excited when I received the Roomba s9+ from iRobot last month. Let me just say, I've had the Roomba on my wish-list for years, so I was overjoyed to be able to work with them and share with you their latest robot vacuum. The Roomba s9+ includes a clean base that has an automatic dirt disposal, which saves you even more time and gives you less to do. Setting up the vacuum was pretty easy and the instructions were very clear. As I let the vacuum charge, I then downloaded the Roomba app (which is available in both the Apple and Google Play Stores) and set up a free account and synced my device with the app, which again, very easy to do and the instructions are clear. I had no trouble getting this together.

The Roomba comes with the vacuum, the charging station clean base, power cord, two vacuum bags and an extra corner brush. Once charged and synced with your app, you can then either click on the CLEAN button on the vacuum or open up your Roomba app and hit clean for the device to start cleaning your floors. What I love about this is that you can clean your floors from wherever you're at. If you're away, you can even schedule your Roomba to clean on certain days and times or you can just hit the CLEAN button on the app and let the Roomba do its thing.

This vacuum has saved me so much time. We were hit with the flu over the holidays and so cleaning took everything out of me and left me exhausted. The Roomba was my best friend because once I'd load the dishwasher and clean the counters in my kitchen, I was able to go lay down and gets some rest, but not before opening the Roomba app on my phone and having it clean the floors. Another great feature in this vacuum is that it has an automatic dirt disposal in the charging station. So once the Roomba has fully cleaned your room and heads back to the charging station, the clean base automatically kicks on and gets the trash that the Roomba has collected so that it's ready to go for the next time.

With its advanced 3D sensors, the Roomba s9+ can memorize each room and the layout so that it cleans the floors in your home fully. It also constantly scans what's immediately ahead of the Roomba at a rate of 25 times per second to help get deep into corners, along edges and clean large areas efficiently.

Unlike the previous devices, the Roomba s9+ now can hug edges and gets into corners with new Perfect Edge Technology that finds dirt wherever it hides. It also offers the most powerful cleaning throughout the entire home with 40X the suction over previous generation Roomba vacuum. It also includes an Anti-Allergen System that traps and locks dirt, debris and allergens from escaping from the robot or its Clean Base, preventing the release of dirty air back into the home.

The Roomba s9+ is  30 percent wider and with the 2 Dual Rubber Brushes provides more cleaning with every pass. Each brush is uniquely designed with rubber treads that stay in constant contact with different floor surfaces – from hard floors to carpets. The specially designed Corner Brush uses five 30mm arms to grab dirt and debris from deep in corners and along walls, directing it into the robot’s path to be vacuumed up.

My entire family has been so impressed with the s9+ and although you would think, yes you're saving time, but is it making you lazy because you now have a device to clean your floors for you. Well, if you're thinking that, I'd have to say if anything, having the Roomba in our home has done the opposite. Because we are depending on this smart device to clean our floors, we want it to do the best job it can and so I've found that my kids, husband and myself have been picking up more so that the Roomba can fully clean each room.

We have a three level split home, so the first level when walking into our home is our dinning room and kitchen. I have our Roomba stationed in our dinning room since both rooms are where the most traffic for food are. When I want it to clean my living room, I take it downstairs manually and hit the CLEAN button and let the Roomba do its thing.

I can't tell you enough how helpful and amazing the s9+ has been. It's even got my teens more excited to do their chores, which is always a bonus. Another thing about this amazing vacuum is that as it's cleaning, it's creating a map of each room so that it cleans each room better and better as it remembers the floor plans with its Imprint Smart Mapping, learning our home's floor plan to determine the best way to clean each room. With Wi-Fi connectivity, the s9+ lets you customize cleaning with the iRobot HOME App or control it hands-free with Alexa enabled devices and the Google Assistant. This was something my son was all too excited about because he received an Alexa as one of his gifts at Christmas and he loves that he can tell Alexa to enable the Roomba.

The Roomba s9+ is retailed for $1,649.99 CAD and is available on their website or in major retail stores like, Best Buy, Coscto, Canadian Tire, Bed Bath & Beyond and Lowes. The Roomba s9+ robot vacuum can also be purchased without the Clean Base™ starting at $1,299.99 CAD. The Clean Base™ with Automatic Dirt Disposal for Roomba s9 is sold separately for $499.99 CAD and additional Dirt Disposal Bags can be purchased for $19.99 CAD for a pack of three bags.

Now I know that the price of the s9+ may be too expensive and that's okay, the previous models of the Roomba are a bit more affordable.

Roomba i7+ - $1,299
Roomba i7 - $949
Roomba 960 - $799
Roomba e5 - $499
Roomba 675 – $399
