DIY: Tub and Shower Magic Spray

I hate cleaning. I think there's maybe a few out there who love it. Don't get me wrong, I love my house being clean. The smell of a clean house makes me smile. It's just the labor I hate that goes into cleaning.

One of the big pains for me is spending money on cleaning supplies. They're pretty expensive. I usually stock up when my favorite cleaning supplies go on sale, but when they aren't I find myself turning to the good old homemade cleaning supplies. Lately I've been using my all new favorite bath and shower spray that I found the recipe to a few months ago on

Not only is it the easiest thing to put together, it actually works. It gets rid of all those tough soap scum that builds up in your tub and shower. And all it takes is two ingredients to get this power spray. Equal parts of dawn dish washing liquid and vinegar. THAT'S IT! Plus a spray bottle to put it in. So here's the directions below. Here's to saving money on cleaning supplies!

12 ounces Dawn Dishwashing Liquid
12 ounces Vinegar

  • Heat vinegar in microwave until hot and pour into squirt bottle.
  • Add the Dawn soap. Put the lid on and gently shake to incorporate.
  • You now have a powerful cleaning product that will melt soap scum and tub and shower buildup, clean sinks, appliances and just about anything. Just spray it on, scrub, rinse and be amazed. For tough soap scum build-up, spray the mixture on and allow it to sit as long as overnight. Then, scrub and rinse.

WARNING - Although this stuff works like a charm, the spray itself has such a POWERFUL STRONG SMELL! I usually let the spray sit in my tub and leave to finish up some other cleaning for about 10-15 minutes before going back in the bathroom to finish cleaning the tub.

  1. Vinegar is so useful! I remember my Gramma using it for all her cleaning

  2. I use vinegar to clean pretty much everything! Works like a charm! I hadn't thought of using Dawn though! I'm going to give this a try. I'm with you on the cleaning thing. Ick. LOL!

  3. Hm, tempted to try this but I may have a problem with the whole smell thing. Most cleaning products make me gag.

  4. Thanks for sharing, I tend to use non-toxic stuff to clean the house, Seventh Generation and it can get pricy. You can't go wrong with homemade stuff though.

  5. I love vinegar for so many things!

I have a shower trick too - I've been meaning to post it FOREVER - will have to do it soon!
