Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell & Faith Erin Hicks Book Review

Title: Pumpkinheads
By: Rainbow Rowell & Faith Erin Hicks
Publisher: First Second
Publication Date: August 27, 2019
Pages: 224

Deja and Josiah are seasonal best friends.

Every autumn, all through high school, they’ve worked together at the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world. (Not many people know that the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world is in Omaha, Nebraska, but it definitely is.) They say good-bye every Halloween, and they’re reunited every September 1.
But this Halloween is different—Josiah and Deja are finally seniors, and this is their last season at the pumpkin patch. Their last shift together. Their last good-bye.

Josiah’s ready to spend the whole night feeling melancholy about it. Deja isn’t ready to let him. She’s got a plan: What if—instead of moping and the usual slinging lima beans down at the Succotash Hut—they went out with a bang? They could see all the sights! Taste all the snacks! And Josiah could finally talk to that cute girl he’s been mooning over for three years . . .

What if their last shift was an adventure?

MY REVIEW
I am a huge fan of Rainbow Rowell. Her work speaks for itself with amazing books like Fangirl and Eleanor & Park, just to name a couple. When I got the opportunity to read Pumpkinheads I was super excited. Not only was this a beautifully illustrated book, Faith Erin Hicks  did an amazing job with the graphics, but the story line just warmed my heart right up. This was a quick read, but boy did I enjoy every bit of it.

Both Deja and Josiah are seasonal best friends, meaning, they work together during the Fall at a local Pumpkin Patch that they both absolutely love. As they are getting ready to prepare for their senior year in high school and their last year working at the Pumpkin Patch, Deja is finally going to help her best friend get the girl of his dreams. The problem is, everywhere they look, they end up missing her by just a few minutes. As they work their way throughout the entire pumpkin patch to find the girl of Josiah's dreams, they realize that they need to savor and enjoy every bit of time they have together because who knows when they'll hangout again.

Filled with beautifully illustrated pictures and a story that will definitely have you smiling from eat to ear, Pumpkinheads is a delightful quick read that will have you ready to enjoying all of the Fall things. If you're looking for a great book to read this fall, Pumpkinheads should definitely be on your list.
