Getting The Kiddos To Sleep With A Little Help From Netflix #5MoreMinutes #StreamTeam

Around here our bedtime routine runs pretty smooth. Dinner is between 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. and showers are at 7:30 p.m. After showers the kids have a little time to hangout before brushing their teeth at around and in their rooms for 8:00 p.m. After the hubby and I say goodnight to them, they are to read for 20 minutes and afterwards are allowed to watch one show on Netflix. TV's and lights are out by 9:00 p.m.

We've been doing this routine for the last three years or so. It wasn't always that easy. I remember there being lots of kinks in the beginning. An example, there was a time where both my older kiddos thought the "one show," rule before bed could apply to anything on Netflix. Including movies. LOL

They had us because technically we didn't say it had to be a television show and we didn't say how long the show had to be. Which brings me to the next thing they tried to pull on us, watching television shows that were an hour long. They got us again. They were watching a television show, it just so happened that America's Funniest Home Videos runs over an hour long. So kids 2, parents 0. This lead to the new rule of the television show couldn't be longer than 30 minutes.

Finally, we got it right.

Now, Netflix has a great new feature for the show, Dinotrux Favorites. The show is five minutes long. How awesome is that. I really hope they do this for other kid shows too. This would be perfect when my youngest daughter starts this routine like her older siblings. I can put on one show for her that lasts five minutes and then off to bed she goes. This would definitely be great to have as an option and will definitely come in handy for getting little ones to bed on time.

In the meantime, here are some 30 minute shows that my kids have been enjoying and watching before bed this past month:

What are some of your kids favorite shows to watch before bed?
