Learning with Reading Horizons

Reading Horizons is a program that teaches kids who are beginning or struggling with reading the basics. I had the pleasure of reviewing their Intensive Phonics program this Summer for a couple of months with my two little ones. The Intensive Phonics program helps kids from ages four to nine.I have to say I was very impressed with this program.

We started with Reading Horizons back in the beginning of July. This would be something that both my kids can do and since my oldest already loves reading, her enthusiasm about starting this program made her brother more willing to try it.

Now with this package we were sent flash cards that helped with letter grouping. We were also sent four of the Discover Intensive Phonics for Yourself books, which were books with different stories of all levels for my kids to try and read and at the end of each story there were questions to discuss the stories and also the skilled words they were learning and words that they weren't learning yet. I have to say my daughter hands down took book number one like a champ, which I knew she would since she loves to read. My son on the other hand had a little bit of trouble, but to me this was normal since he just turned five.

Along with the Intensive Phonics I received a Sound Essential book and volume one and two of the teacher's manual. I loved that in the Sound Essential book that it came with practice pages for my kids to learn and practice to write. This made a huge difference for my daughter because there are times where she struggles with her writing when it comes to sentences. Now another thing I loved about this book was that it also came with games and activities to make it more fun for them to learn. We did this a lot as it was Summer and I found that playing games that also teaches them made a way better difference and it actually stuck with them.

My overall experience with Reading Horizons was pretty awesome. The program helped my daughter become a more stronger reader and it taught my son the basics which he needed going into Senior Kindergarten. If you have a child that is struggling or just needing to learn the basics this is definitely a program for you and if you don't think that it's being effective or doing the job what's great is that Reading Horizons offers a 60 day money back guarantee, but I doubt you would need it.

Disclosure: All opinions are my own. I received Reading Horizons Intensive Phonics at no cost for the purpose of this review. No other compensation was received.
